About Media IT
Within
the media field changes occur at an accelerating pace, which, in
turn, bring consequences for the existing media and its impact on
peoplesī lives and society. The digitalization of media is one
aspect of this ongoing process which is affected by the rapid
development of information technology. Media content also changes as
new ways of communication are developed, creating new services and
actors on the market. Already, we are able to see that the
boundaries between e.g. digital (daily) press, radio and TV are
converging.
Media IT as a
research program focuses on three important changes in society:
- the
development of new information technologies,
- alterations in
media consumption behavior, and
- the ongoing
convergence between different types of media.
These alterations bring new, interesting future opportunities for
e.g. digital media within the newspaper market, dynamic publication
of information within organizations or digital publication focusing
on entertainment, such as digital TV or web services. New
technology, such as mobile IT and e-paper raise demands for new thinking concerning interface design, interactivity and
applications. Extra value can be created through new possibilities
of interactivity and the convergence of different types of media.
Concurrently, competition on the media market for advertisers and
audience increases. Additionally, financial balancing gains
importance in the media corporations. This raises demands for new thinking regarding development of value adding and revenue
generating services and corresponding business models.
Within the Media IT program, studies are conducted on the design of
usable IT for different future media genres. There is a demand for
research results within this area both from the media market as well
as from the academia. Future use of IT generates the need for
knowledge regarding interaction- and interface design as well as the
design of value adding services and corresponding business models.
Such knowledge will create the prerequisites for users to adopt and
accept these media. Another focal point are the development
of new user centered design and evaluation methods.
